Skin is constantly regenerating itself. The dermis sends skin cells to the epidermis where skin cells die. The dead skin cells are then sloughed off. As we get older, our cell turnover rate decreases and instead of our dead skin cells sloughing off they accumulate. Often leading to dull, dry skin. This is where exfoliation comes in.
